Who can you approach in the workplace if you notice stress or health hazards at work?

If you notice that something at your workplace is dangerous or is affecting your health, there are several people who can help you. You don't have to be alone. You can contact managers, occupational safety specialists, the company doctor or doctors, the works council, or the occupational safety committee.

You should know:

  • Talk to your manager, your employer, or your employer. They must ensure that the work is safe. If something is dangerous, you can report it there.
  • Contact the occupational safety specialists. These experts check whether your workplace is safe. They know the rules and protective measures and can suggest improvements.
  • Turn to the company doctor or doctors. They support you with health issues that may be related to work. Everything you say there remains confidential.
  • Use the works council or staff representation if there is one. They represent your interests and advocate for safe and healthy working conditions.
  • In larger companies, there is often an occupational safety committee. This body discusses hazards in the company and looks for solutions. Problems can be raised there.
  • If you are not heard in the company or the employer rejects all suggestions, you can also contact the occupational safety authority anonymously.
