Who can I talk to in the company about health issues?

If you have health problems, you are not alone. There are several points of contact within the company that can listen to you and help. You can ask your supervisor, the works council, the company doctor, the occupational safety specialist, or the BEM. Some companies also have external health counseling.

You should know this:

  • First, talk to your supervisor. They can help you think about how your work can be adjusted or made easier.
  • If there is a works council: You can go there at any time. The works council advocates for your health and your rights at work.
  • The company doctor can give you medical advice. They are not allowed to share your personal health data with the company.
  • Occupational safety specialist: If your health problems are related to your workplace, they can check if improvements are needed.
  • If you are frequently or long-term ill: You can receive support through the "Betriebliches Eingliederungsmanagement" (BEM). There, they will look at what can help you return to work well.
  • Some companies also have external contacts if your company has an EAP (employee assistance program) / health counseling. Ask your supervisor about this.
