What can I do with the health insurance card?

A health insurance company is an entity that pays for your medical and treatment costs. It helps you when you are sick.

With your health insurance card, you can identify yourself at the doctor's office, in the hospital, or during therapies. It is also called an electronic health card (eGK). The card shows: You are insured. Doctors can use it to bill your treatment directly with your health insurance. You only need to show the card.

With the card, you can also redeem prescriptions. Some important data can be stored on the card if you wish. The card is therefore your key to many health services.
